The weekend just past was one of the best weekends Carlos and I have had in a while. We went to Louisville, which is about an hour away, for a cousin reunion on his side of the family. The hotel we stayed in started off the weekend toward wonderful. It must be a 5 Star hotel with all the amenities there, as well as such wonderful service from bottom up and from the top back down!
All of the family stayed in the same hotel, the Hyatt Regency in downtown Louisville. It is positioned in the one of the party centers of downtown Louisville. It is in walking distance of 4th Street Live. This is an area with several bars, restaurants, and other entertainment avenues.
4th Street Live was hopping from about 5:30 in the afternoon to the wee hours of Saturday morning. On Sunday it was closed. I didn’t even need to go into any of the bars, etc., for entertainment: Watching the people as they passed by was entertaining enough!
Saturday afternoon I learned we were going on a yacht for lunch. This concerned me a little because, well, I am in a power wheelchair. This usually raises eyebrows and makes people cuss under their breath when they find out they have to deal with us. This did not happen at all on the river luncheon cruise aboard the CQ Princess at the Captain’s Quarters Riverside Grille. In fact, a wonderful man, whose name I did not get, actually got in the water to help make me feel more secure when I was crossing the gang-plank each way. The boat also provided a ramp to help me get inside without any questions asked, and they were so wonderful and attentive without being “nervous” I simply relaxed because I didn’t have to worry about helping someone feel at ease around me in their place of business. This is the first time this has happened in a several years! I highly recommend the crew and Captain’s Quarters. I can’t say enough good about them!
Carlos also relaxed, which was amazing in and of itself; he relaxed for the same reason I did. Added to this were members of his family he has not seen in a while, and he was happily and genuinely getting to visit with them.
This trip gave me an opportunity to get to know members of the family I knew little to nothing about. I feel so wonderful getting, having this chance because the people I saw and got to know truly are members of my family, too! Not only was I made to feel welcome and a part of the family, but I was also able to share in the laughter and simply be a part of them.
It was the plan on Sunday morning to get up and go to Church at St. Michael’s Antiochian Orthodox Church there in Louisville, St. Andrew’s sister Church, but it didn’t happen. Carlos and I slept. Even though we were up early enough to check out of the hotel in plenty of time and say our good-byes, we both felt a little bad for skipping service. It was worth it, though, and I am sure God understands.
Perhaps it is needless to say, but the dogs were very happy to see us and have us back with them. Willie and Chewie were exceptionally happy to see us. Since Willie Fu has entered our family, Chewie seems a little uncertain as to his position in the family. Carlos and I have really been making sure he was safe, happy, loved and petted on just as much as before. Gabby understands, but Willie Fu does not want us to forget we have a new boy in the family who needs just as much attention.
I was a good fur baby momma, over the weekend: I only texted Cheyenne and Sniffles only a 100 times in the first day and slacked off to less than that for Saturday.
